about

This track is about a small boy in Cape Town that Trenton used to see begging at the traffic lights everyday, a common site in developing countries. Its about wanting freedom from poverty but also about the developing worlds perception that a life without material goods is an empty one. A percentage of proceeds from the sale of this track goes towards the Breathe Sunshine Foundation www.breathesunshine.org

lyrics

Barefoot hope:

This little boy was growing up on a street corner
Begging with his mama every day for food and water
The traffic lights his playground
His nursery rhymes were an engine sound
He didn’t really know about the world and its thinking
Didn’t really know what his mama was drinking
He was a lonely boy
Wanting to be a man
And hold his head up high as a proud African

Chorus;
He longs for freedom
Freedom when he grows old
He longs for freedom
Freedom when he grows old
He longs for freedom
Freedom when he grows old
He longs for freedom
Cos freedom is his gold

He doesn’t even know the name of the street
He wanders the tarmac with naked feet
The women in the beamer today she was sweat
She gave him a chocolate to corrode his teeth
But all this time he was dreaming and scheming
Street university was giving him meaning
He remembered things
Recited happenings
And felt the beauty of the world like when a bird sings

Chorus

This little boy is not alone in his struggle
We all go through some kind of trouble
But there is beauty in simplicity
And happiness can exist in poverty
This boys spirit could not be silenced
He flew a peace flag amongst the violence
He breathed the sunshine to help him cope
Cos this little boys name was, hope
